This position provides security, transportation, recreation, and maintenance services as required for youthful offenders within its facility.
Essential Functions:
• Supervises youthful offender movement in and out of the program area.
• Monitors program areas during scheduled programs and ensures that all youthful offenders are where they are scheduled to be.
• Takes corrective action with youthful offenders when indicated.
• Reviews and implements CCCS, Inc. security and control procedures including but not limited to the following: intake processing; youthful offender control and supervision; use of force; contraband control; inventory control; personal and physical plant searches; key, tool, and equipment control; and facility vehicle inspections.
• Reviews and implements CCCS, Inc. breathalyzer and urinalysis policies and procedures including administration and collection.
• Provides youthful offender transportation.
• Supervises youthful offender recreation and community service activities.
• Reviews and implements CCCS, Inc. safety and emergency policies and procedures including, but not limited to the following: fire safety, flammable, toxic, and caustic materials, emergency plans, evacuation drills, and threats to security.
• Assists youthful offender’s program orientation and special needs.
• Assists caseworker, administrative, and supervisory staff as directed.
• Performs maintenance and repair functions as directed by the Shift Supervisor.
• Attends staff and program meetings as required.
Required Training:
Juvenile Correctional Officers new to Martin Hall shall complete at least 80 hours of training relevant to their position prior to assignment on shift. The officer is required to complete training during each year of employment.
Working Conditions:
Working conditions are inside a climate controlled environment. Occasional travel may be required. The Juvenile Correctional Officer works five (5), eight hour (8)-hour shifts per week. Considerable documentation and paperwork requirements exist. The Juvenile Corrections Officer must be able to organize and manage time effectively and manage multiple tasks.
Physical Activities Required to Perform Essential Functions:
Sitting/Standing/Walking: Majority of time is spent walking, moving around outside working areas or at a desk. Speaking/Hearing: Clear diction and acute hearing are necessary for interaction with the public, contacts, and co-workers.
Vision: Corrected vision close to 20/20 is necessary.
Research/Handling: Good manual dexterity for computer keyboard use and the ability to retrieve and work with appropriate paperwork, equipment, and supplies.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
• Oral and written communications as required by assignment.
• Ability to communicate in a non-threatening manner.
• Ability to observe and evaluate various youth behaviors.
• Ability to remain calm under stressful conditions.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School diploma or GED equivalent. Physically able to respond to emergency situations. Verifiable work experience in public contact setting. Must successfully pass security background investigation with no convictions within the last five years. Location: Medical Lake, Wa
