The Employment Specialist assists individuals with disabilities obtain competitive employment within the community which meets the employment goals and support needs as outlined in their career plans. This position will provide transportation and mobility training to assist supported employees in getting to and from work, interviews, completing applications, and other related job search activities such as resume writing, and interviewing techniques. The Employment Specialist will research and follow up on employment leads in the community, make sales calls to find or create employment opportunities for supported employees and assist employers in modification of job descriptions, restructuring job duties, or work environment changes which better accommodate the job performance needs of the supported employee.
Responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
Develop a written job placement plan with the individual employment candidate and interdisciplinary team which identify specific employment outcomes, job development strategies, employment support activities, and other relevant job planning information
Utilize customized employment strategies when appropriate to help the individual successfully move into competitive employment
Conduct job and task analyses to determine tasks to be learned by supported employees
Evaluate job sites for safety and document findings and recommendations
Identify possible learning barriers and determine the most suitable training method for each task
Provide training on-site if needed, while developing natural supports
Maintain case record and progress reporting systems in compliance with agency standards
Participate in all team planning sessions
Make entries into case notes, progress reports, training logs, and goal books concerning progress on goals, vocational training, and behavior deviations
Record and retrieve program evaluation data as requested
Complete DVR training documentation and billing processesRequirements:
High school diploma or GED plus some college course work in the areas of marketing, vocational rehabilitation, sales or personnel, psychology, sociology preferred
At least (6) months experience working with individuals with disabilities
Valid WA State driverÂ’s license
Acceptable five (5) year driverÂ’s abstract
Proof of automobile insurance
First Aid/CPR certification or ability to obtain certification
Able to maintain positive business relationships internally and externally; work effectively with others and garner the trust and cooperation of customers, staff, public, community, etc.
Able to make sales calls; listen, understand and ask questions
Able to evaluate job sites for task required and safety
Able to evaluate individualÂ’s skills and interests in order to match their abilities with employerÂ’s needs; look for ways to help people
Walking for ten (10) minutes at a time; walking on uneven ground
Sitting up to three (3) hours on chair or stool
Driving/operating motorized vehicle
Carry up to 20lbs.
Standing up to four (4) hoursSchedule:

Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm
