HR Manager -- Compensation, Benefits & HRIS - Ambassadors Group (Spokane)

Ambassadors Group is the parent company to People to People Ambassador Programs, World Adventures Unlimited and BookRags, an educational research website. The company also oversees the Washington School of World Studies, an accredited travel study and distance learning school. Ambassador Programs, which is the largest and most profitable division, consists of People to People educational travel programs initiated by President Dwight D. Eisenhower over 50 years ago. The Position
Reporting to the VP of HR, the HR Manager will be responsible for implementing and managing the company's Compensation and Benefits programs as well as providing core support for HRIS implementations and HR Metrics/Data reporting. This is a hands-on position that will provide leadership and execution of deliverables in these areas. In this position, you will work with HR Staff, external vendors and consultants and a broad array of managers across the company.
Specific deliverables associated with this position include:
Lead the development, implementation, and maintenance of the company compensation and benefits programs.
Prepare job descriptions, conduct job evaluation and salary surveys, establish salary structures, develop salary budgets, and prepare policies and procedures to insure the achievement of equitable and competitive employee compensation.
Support the implementation of merit pay practices and coach managers in the use of such practices.
May be responsible for incentive, stock option and bonus plan design and administration.
Maintain a working knowledge of federal and state legislation influencing compensation and benefits.
Monitor and evaluate the company's benefits programs including: insurance programs, retirement plans, sick leave, time off and vacation policies.
Ensures benefit programs are current with regard to trends, practices and costs.
Survey market data in order to determine company's competitive position in employee benefits.
Negotiate coverage services and costs with carriers.
Administer all benefit programs either directly or through supporting brokers or vendors.
Review requests for new or revised classifications to determine appropriate salary grade assignment.
Formulate recommendations regarding development of company salary structure, FLSA exemptions, job revisions and organizational structures.
Review existing and proposed statutory requirements governing compensation administration and recommends appropriate courses of action.
Prepare special studies and recommendations on subjects such as incentive compensation, bonus plans, sales compensation or stock options -- including, administration of domestic and international programs.
Development, implementation and maintenance of human resource information systems (HRIS) associated with the collection, retrieval, accessibility and usage of employee information for Human Resource department planning and activities.
Maintain internal database files and tables and develop custom reports to meet the requirements of Human Resource management and staff.
Work with Human Resources personnel to evaluate HRIS software needs and may design new or modify existing HRIS to meet changing demands. Often works with payroll and its personnel to coordinate retrieval and reporting functions. Serves as the HR department liaison to MIS/IT function.

The Requirements
The successful candidate for this position should have broad HR experience across the functions of Compensation, Benefits and HRIS. Candidates should have a passion for education, global citizenship and international travel, the core missions of the companies under Ambassadors Group. The successful candidate will possess the following skills, abilities and experience:
8+ years of HR experience in Compensation & Benefits or related roles, where positions of increasing responsibility are evident.
Must possess excellent working knowledge of all Compensation and Benefits best practices as evidenced by prior implementation experience and verifiable references.
Must have led benefits negotiation, plan design and open enrollment processes for the full range of employee benefits. Additional preference for experience designing and implementing wellness programs.
Must have prior experience implementing new or updated pay grade, career ladder and job description systems. This can be through independent development or via the support of external compensation consultants.
Must have an in-depth knowledge of HRIS systems (web-hosted SAS or enterprise systems) and have some prior experience implementing various modules for new or enhanced HR functionality. Preference for experience with ADP HR, ATS, LMS and other modules or add-on's such as performance management and succession planning.
Must have prior experience building HR balanced scorecards or dashboards that utilize available data for transparency around key people metrics. Preference for candidates that have developed and implemented a monthly HR reporting package
Fully proficient in the following software tools:◦MS Office suite, including Excel, MS Word and PowerPoint, with an emphasis on Excel.
◦ HRIS web-based applications such as ADP, Ceredian, Ultimate or WorkDay.
◦ Data reporting tools such as Cognos or ReportSmith for report writing.
People management is not necessary. However, a history of successful project management is required. Preference for experience using basic project management tools and processes.
Must possess ability to work successfully in a cross-functional and multi-cultural environment that rewards team-based, collaborative achievement of objectives.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and prioritize between key deliverables.
Must possess excellent interpersonal communications skills and collaborative team behavior.
