Technical Support/Software Development Engineer (Spokane, WA) Full-time

Glyph Language Services is a rapidly growing language, technology and media company. Glyph is currently seeking a highly motivated and responsible individual whose primary duties are related to helping support a new contract to localize and host multiple high profile websites for the US government.



This individual should be an overall strong technologist, both as a software development engineer as well as general tech support, who enjoys variety and challenge in his/her daily tasks. The position will entail developing and maintaining systems to detect changes on certain websites and generate work orders that will propagate these changes to localized versions of the sites.



Along with this primary duty, the individual will be expected to help provide general software development and tech support for all of Glyph's operations. This can include configuring servers, networks and installing software for PMs. As a developer, Glyph has ongoing projects involving internal project management systems (HTML5, AJAX, Java Servlets, MySQL), writing parsers for clients (Python) and integrating these with 3rd party online services.



This individual must be fully committed to going the extra mile when necessary to deliver for our government clients. This position is not expected to be one of continual crisis, but when one happens you will be the first, last and only (along with all the rest of us) line of defense -- so be prepared. We like to have a normal life too, so we will work hard in making the situation as regular as possible.



The ideal candidate will be able to also work at home as well as at the office and be mature enough to proactively coordinate with remote team members and management. This individual is expected to be continually learning about a broad range of technologies and bring great ideas to the table about how to improve and grow our company.



For consideration the individual must have the following:



Degree: Bachelor's Degree, in a technical major (Computer Science, Information Technology, or Engineering) or equivalent work experience required. Master's degree desirable but not required.



The following technical skills are most desirable, though we do not expect expertise in all:



• Basic web technologies: HTML/CSS/JavaScript

• Java, PHP, .NET, Python

• SQL and databases

• Flash and Actionscript

• XML and JSON

• Unicode of various flavors

• Fonts

• Creating parsers

• Familiarity with Linux and Windows OS

• MS Office

• Bugzilla or other open source defect tracking system.



Other skills and attributes we are interested in:



• Experience with government projects and operations highly desirable.

• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and solve complex issues.

• Demonstrated ability to provide information in a concise, professional manner.

• Demonstrated ability to identify a crisp and concise definition of technical and business requirements.

• Comfortable mentoring other engineers, documenting processes, reviewing requirements and specifications, peer review of other's work.

• Demonstrated ability to identify, communicate, and implement areas for new operational efficiencies for the team.
