Position Summary
This position is responsible for working on technical issues related to products released to production. These technical issues can arise from customer field uses, manufacturing yield concerns, warranty returned products, and end of life components. Design activities include product modifications accommodate end of life component replacements, correction of product defects, improve regulatory compliance, or to improve product performance. Efforts often require collaboration with peers and working under the direction of technical leads on assigned project teams.
Responsibilities
- Act as an individual contributor or project lead in understanding and solving complex hardware issues in server class networking equipment and storage solutions.
- Troubleshoot electronic equipment with internally developed and 3rd party software and hardware tools.
- Propose design, manufacturing test, and component changes to resolve issues.
- Provide time sensitive detailed failure analysis reports for warranty returned products.
- Work with engineers and management at various f5 locations.
Qualifications
- 7+ years of Hardware or Electronic Engineering experience in design, manufacturing or sustaining roles.
- Candidate must have experience resolving technical problems with medium-volume, high-value networking equipment.
- BS degree in electrical engineering or related discipline is highly preferred.
- Ability to run component qualification tests to support sustaining activities.
- Strong communication skills including technical report preparation, verbal presentations, and email interaction.
- Proficient in all Microsoft office tools.
- Familiarity with Linux/Unix variants.
- Familiarity with Mentor, SolidWorks, Agile, and Clarify is a plus.
- Must be able to work in a lab environment utilizing everything from hand tools to oscilloscopes.
- The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills, the ability to meet scheduled commitments and stay focused in a demanding environment.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
Duties are performed in a normal office or electronics lab environment. Duties may require the ability to travel via automobile or airplane, with approximately 5% of the time spent traveling. Job may be performed on-site, at a contract manufacturer, vendor lab, or in an office environment sitting at a desk or computer table. Duties may require being on call periodically and working outside normal working hours (evenings and weekends). Job requires the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
