Software Test Engineer

US- Spokane, WA

Scope of Responsibilities



Test Engineer for Product Verification/Validation (PV) team will develop test plans and test cases as well as execute system validation testing for Carrier Ethernet switches within the Carrier Ethernet Solutions department



Specific Responsibilities



Development of system level test plans/cases and test automation for CES Carrier Ethernet switches.



· Write, modify, and verify quality standards and test procedures for product verificationvalidation via iTest for automation.

· Execution of test cases and reporting test results with artifacts using Quality Center (QC).

· Focus is on system level validation, but understands all levels of testing: unit testing, system integration testing, and system level testing (including 3rd party interop). This includes solid Layer 1-3 knowledge for switches and routers.

· Requires continuous research to ensure software features meet identified standards, product marketing/functional requirements and customer solutions.

· Work closely with other departments (such as Development, Marketing, and Customer Support) to ensure accurate test cases are created and ensure highest quality is achieved. Participate in peer reviews for manual and automated system-level test cases.

Consult with software development engineers in resolution of defects.





Candidate Profile



· Fluency and experience in data communication systems, networking, Ethernet switches, and real world topologies in general.



· L2/L3 protocol knowledge specializing in Carrier Ethernet Services:

· 802.1d (STP) -- 802.1s (MSTP) -- 802.1w (RSTP)

· 802.1q (VLAN) -- 802.1 QinQ

· 802.1p (User Priority) w/L2 QoS-CoS

· 802.1ag (CFM)

· 802.1ah (PBB) -- 802.1Qay (PBB-TE)

· DHCP (w/Option 82)

· DNS

· IGMPv2/v3 (Multicast)

· LACP

· LLDP

· MPLS (LER/LSR)

· OSPF/ISIS

· LDP/RSVP-TE

· NTP

· SNMPv2/v3

· TWAMP

· Authentication Protocols

· 802.1x

· TACACS

· Radius



· L2TP (tunneling protocol disposition, including peer interaction)

· Carrier Ethernet Services

· MEF Specific (EPL/EVPL/E-LINE/ELAN)





· Experience with traffic generators such as Ixia (IxAutomate, IxNetwork, Spirent, Shenick (DiversifEye) and Agilent N2X for simulating real-world scenarios including conformance, performance, and scalability testing for Carrier Ethernet features.

· Hands-on experience with large L2/L3 topologies utilizing ALCALU, Cisco, and Juniper.

· Ability to resolve complex issues and adequately document test progress and results to provide weekly/monthly/annual metrics.

· Knowledge of basic software test processes.

· Experience with defect tracking systems, test management systems and software revision control, including MKS, iTest (TCL/Expect knowledge desired), Quality Center and Perforce

Education / Experience



· BSEE/BSCS

· 3+ years of relevant experience in telecommunications and test
