Development Director (WSU College of Nursing Spokane, WA)

The Development Director will oversee all aspects of fundraising for the College of Nursing. The Development Director will be responsible for increasing the level of support for the College of Nursing from individuals, corporations, foundations, and other sources. Specifically the Development Director will work closely with the Dean to advance the philanthropic priorities of the College, direct, plan and manage development activities between the College and external constituencies, act as liaison for collaborative efforts of the College, other areas within WSU and the WSU Foundation in support of the College's Strategic Plan, oversee the grant writing program, and oversee donor relations and special events for the College that focus on fundraising, cultivation and stewardship. Required: A Bachelor's degree AND six (6) years of progressively responsible experience which includes three (3) years of full-time professional fund raising experience and at least two (2) years in an institution of higher education. Demonstrated success in proposal writing and submission, evidence of ability to plan and execute a fund drive (i.e. responsibility for a project from conception to realization), demonstrated success in face-to-face solicitations of gifts of $25,000 or more OR comparable experience. A Master's degree in a related field may be substituted for up to one (1) year of the required experience. Demonstrated ability to cultivate, close and steward major gifts. Fundraising experience closing major gifts of $50,000 and above. Experience with corporate, foundation and government proposal writing and/or volunteer boards. Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills. Must have or be able to obtain at time of hire a valid unrestricted driver's license. Preferred: Advanced degree. Experience with Health Care foundations. Experience with creating/developing/leading new organizations/units/teams, establishing objectives, and developing and implementing plans to successfully accomplish these objectives. Demonstrated computer capabilities and familiarity with spreadsheets and database systems (Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Power Point, alumni/donor applications, E-mail) and willingness to learn new technologies. Demonstrated experience working independently, but within a collaborative team environment, and ability to establish priorities and follow-up in a timely manner. Demonstrated ability to keep accurate records and complete timely reports and maintain the confidentiality of proprietary data. Ability to work evenings, weekends and to travel.
