The Kootenai County Sheriff's Department Recreation Safety Section is looking for enthusiastic and motivated individuals to work an eighteen (18) week Marine Law Enforcement program for the 2010 boating season.
This job begins with four weeks of intense training, including a Basic and Advanced Marine Academy. Immediately following the training session, Marine Deputies commence enforcement and educational patrols on Kootenai Counties 18 lakes and 54 miles of river. These patrols start on Memorial Day Weekend and end with Labor Day.
This is a high profile job that involves a great deal of public interaction. Some of the activities Marine Deputies conduct are; Vessel safety inspections, vessel traffic stops, OUI enforcement (Operating under the influence), issuing citations, participating in parades, performing water related rescues and conducting boat accident investigation.

SUMMARY/JOB DES. - Patrol Kootenai County waterways, conduct vessel safety inspections, respond to calls for assist., issue citations, investigate accidents, remove hazards, maintain Marine Div. equip. Req: H.S. Dipl./GED & 2 yrs FT work exper;.outdoor & physical skills; ability to swim, lifesave & communicate w/public; valid Dr. Lic.; Exp. in oper. &/or knowl. of watercraft helpful. P.O.S.T. phys. agility & written test on Wed 3/3/10; swim test at later date; background invest., polygraph, prior to emp.; includes wknds. & holidays. No benefits.
